We drifted away
Together at dusk
On a foreign lake
With a swaying lap
An awsome surface
And a profound depth
We swam and waited
For the night to come

In the sad mantle
Of past misery

Our old seaman’s arm
Shuddered and the winds
Zoomed from snow-covered
Mountaintop summits

The lake resounded
And clamoured loudly
Rumbled, lamented
And the deep lake laughed
We flew while we sailed
All our misery
I whispered quietly
Is absolved at last

This lake is a tomb
Holy, enamoured
Holding the secret
In its warm embrace

Forever holding
Nursing and blessing
Nobody will see
Its arms around us

Come, let us plunge in
She glances at me
And then turns and looks
Sadly, longingly

Towards the lakeside

We fly, we hurry
Oh, to continue
To go on and live
To walk with torture
To bear, but to be

Madly behind us

The deepwater lake
With a strange surface
An enamoured lap
A blessed embrace
And so the lake laughed
Wherever we go
Ever since that time
At every twilight
We hear the lake’s laugh
